Clouds

Further exploring our interest in clouds as a metaphor for random formations, Escher GuneWardena created the scenography "Clouds" for the 2014 CalArts REDCAT Gala. Clouds are a representation of the ephemeral, fleeting, and randomly structured formations found in all forms of creative thinking. A graphic image used to illustrate thought, they also represent change, movement, and the breaking of rhythm -- formless form.

A loosely-shaped assemblage of many materials create a single large three-dimensional cloud, hovering in the center of the room. An armature of flexible metal tubing hold together, crumpled metal mesh, sheaths of theatrical fabric, clusters of branches, and clouds of flower blossoms, create a huge sculptural mass, washed in changing light tints of pastel cloud colors, from pale blues, to pinks, lavenders, and pale yellows.
